Ensuring a Comprehensive, Guaranteed, and Viable Curriculum
June 23-24, 2025

A well-planned and executed curriculum serves as a roadmap for teachers, guiding instruction and providing a clear overview of the skills and knowledge necessary for student success. What makes a well-planned curriculum? How can we ensure our curriculum is comprehensive, guaranteed, and viable? These questions and more will be addressed during our SMCAA 2025 Curriculum Bootcamp!
Curriculum 101: Writing with Purpose from Start to Finish
For those districts who are just entering the realm of curriculum writing or need a general refresher, we will be offering a “Curriculum 101: Curriculum Writing from Start to Finish” track. Training topics in this session will focus on the following topics:
- Items to consider when designing curriculum
- The curriculum writing process
- Control and oversight
Participants in this session will leave with resources to help guide the curriculum writing process in their district.
Curriculum Tune-Up: Auditing and Updating with Intention

- Audit formats that you can adjust to meet your specific audit focus

SMCAA Annual Curriculum Directors Retreat
Riding the Rollercoaster of Change
July 21 – 22, 2025
Old Kinderhook Lodge, Camdenton, Missouri
Target Audience:Curriculum Directors, Instructional Coaches, Lead Teachers, Administrators
There is an old saying “only a wet baby likes change”, yet change is the one thing that we know will always be a constant when it comes to the world of education. In fact, one of the most difficult aspects of our jobs as educational leaders is both managing and leading change. Sometimes the change is not our choice, as is the case with new legislative mandates or when the local Board of Education adopts new policies. Other times, the change is planned based on evidence and discussions with staff and fellow stakeholders.
So what are we to do? How do we go about handling change while keeping our students first? Join us at our 2025 SMCAA Curriculum Directors Retreat as we look at “Riding the Rollercoaster of Change” and reflect on how potential changes in funding, staff, and student needs could affect us in the 2025-2026 school year.
Here is a snapshot of the learning we will experience together:
- Five skills central to implementing evaluative principles
- Research and data that could have an impact on our classrooms and direct instruction, staffing, curriculum and resources
- Review and discussion regarding our current academic state and what we know we will need to zero in on in the coming months
- Developing a plan of attack that will focus on our most important goals: student growth and teacher support
As an added bonus, lunch on Day One we will have Dr. Kyle Kruse, Deputy Commissioner of Administrative and Financial Services as our special guest to share departmental information. The sessions for this Retreat will include active learning processes as attendees apply what they are learning to themselves and their role in the district. Make plans to join us and fellow curriculum-oriented individuals from across the state this July!
Bill Now or After July 1, available on the registration form.
