Champion Teaching Training and Learning Series

2026-2027 Dates Coming Soon

Attendee Testimonials: “I’ve been to quite a few PD’s and I really feel that not only was Dr. Pyle relevant, but the training was also applicable, which is not always the case. Classrooms and the teaching game have changed in so many ways over the years and typically I feel like some of what is taught at PD’s aren’t actually able to be implemented or maybe it can be, but it in super specific instances. The advice and information Dr. Pyle shared was valuable to me because they work, regardless of the classroom you teach in or the students in that room. Your lessons were more about setting up for success and creating a strong foundation that then allows the ability for some of the other PD advice to be used. So, in short, thank you for creating such a meaningful and intentional presentation. And thank you for presenting it in such a way that it resonated and allowed us to fully engage, not just listen.”

“This was the best PD I have attended in years!  I have been teaching for 15 years, and I left with affirmation and new approaches to get my groove back!”

Day One: Classroom Culture and Management

During Day One, we will explore the ideas of Eric Jensen on what constitutes a learning environment that promotes predictability, stability, and safety.  We will identify and practice seven Champion Teaching techniques from Doug Lemov’s book, Teach Like a Champion, that have proven to mitigate stress and see success in a short amount of time.

Day Two: Champion Instruction: Whole Group/Tier One Focus

During Day Two, we will study the skills and five techniques necessary for effective lesson planning and execution that will enhance both engagement and learning during instruction. We will focus on the differences between teaching technique, instructional strategies and focused engagement skills. Highlights include formative evaluation during the instructional process, adjusting lessons to meet the group’s learning needs and reteaching and  creative ways to teach from the walls! Participants will leave with what they need to get whole group instruction back on track!

Trainers: This two-day training will also provide practice and ideas on how to present this information to your staff!  We will assess your current staff needs and how you can navigate your Champion Teaching journey in your building or district. NOW is the time to reclaim your classrooms for student achievement!

Target Audience: Administrators in charge of the instructional process; Instructional coaches; Classroom teachers, teacher leaders and mentors.

NOTE: This training is also available in your district and can be presented as two separate training days (you can choose one or both days). Contact Dr. Janie Pyle: drjpyle@smcaa.org
