# BYOC & The New Missouri Science Standards

As promised, we are doing our best to add the New Missouri Core Standards into BYOC as quickly as possible. We will be adding the new standards by department, with the first department, **English Language Arts** added last week and **Mathematics** added yesterday, and **Science** this evening!

The new standards will be referred to as "Learning Standards" in the list of Missouri standards. In some cases, Math and ELA, you will see the same standards listed twice, one of the sets being the "Detailed" version. it is **VERY IMPORTANT** that you only add one of the sets, either the regular or the detailed version. If you add both you will have duplicate standards present making it very hard on your staff and making quality analysis almost impossible.

Here is an example of Regular vs Detailed standards:

**Regular Version** - 2 Standards

MA.6-12.2016.ALG.APR.1.A - Perform operations on polynomials.

- Add, subtract and multiply polynomials, and understand that polynomials follow the same general rules of arithmetic and are closed under these operations.

- Divide polynomials by monomials.

MA.6-12.2016.ALG.APR.2.A - Perform operations on polynomials and rational expressions.

- Extend the knowledge of factoring to include factors with complex coefficients.

- Understand the Remainder Theorem and use it to solve problems.

- Find the least common multiple of two or more polynomials.

- Add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions.

- Identify zeros of polynomials when suitable factorizations are available, and use the zeros to sketch the function defined by the polynomial.

**Detailed Version** - 7 standards

MA.6-12.2016.ALG.APR.1.A.1 - Perform operations on polynomials.

Please remember to only add one of each of the standard sets. The reason we supply both is so that each district can choose what level of detail they want their standards defined at. We will continue to notify you as we add each remaining department's standards.
